Epiphany

I had an epiphany today.

I went out to buy a case for my netbook. I really wanted a nice, slim, neoprene sleeve with handles or something. I swear I had seen one at Target one time... Anyway, after the auditions at work this morning, I went over to WalMart. They had a few cute ones, but there was something off about all of them, so I decided to head to the mall.

I went to Target, Sears, Best Buy, Newbury Comics, Spencer's, and Hot Topic. I finally decided I would have to get a plain one, and buy a slightly larger purse to put it in. I went back to Target and went to get one of the boring ones, and ended up in a different aisle. They actually had the cute netbook sleeves in the aisle with portable DVD players (obviously?). Anyway... I got a nice, black sleeve with a white floral pattern.

On the way out, I walked by the children's clothing section... and had my epiphany.

I saw a cute tank top, and thought... that is much cuter than the sleeve that I got. Plus, the sleeve has no handles, or way to carry it. My purse is too small to hold it...

I've always loved working with fabric. I was a weaving major in college, and spent a few years in school learning how to make clothes, sew, etc. I decided... I'll just make my own carrying case out of a shirt. I poked around, and found this awesome Hello Kitty shirt that actually matches the sleeve that I got!

I went to go get a simple sewing kit, and found they have a portable sewing machine. I got that, along with a few other accessories I need for it. Now, I'm on the hunt for more clothes. For my bag, I used a store-bought shirt, but from now on I am going to utilize used clothing. It's a green, economical project that might hopefully get me a small amount of income. It'll give me something fun to do, too! I need a hobby...

Suddenly, everything has changed...

It's been forever, but life has been a whirlwind as of late.

We moved out of the apartment in Plymouth, and are (temporarily...) living at Mikey's dad's house. We revamped the downstairs bedroom, and it's actually not so bad. We have the bed, the canopy, the TV... it's pretty cozy. Hopefully we won't be here for too long.

There is so much to say, and that's not what this is about. This is about... the netbook. THE netbook. My netbook.

I've wanted one for a few months now. My old laptop has completely shit itself, and I've been wanting another one. We have our wonderful desktop computers for DDO (yes, there is a new MMO in my life, too) and for the other big things, but I wanted a little laptop. I really just wanted a step up from the iPhone. I love my iPhone, but sometimes you just want to hop on the computer and do something quick... and the iPhone is not one for quick, when browsing the real internet.

This weekend is tax free weekend. I mentioned this to Mikey, saying that I wished we had the money this weekend... long story short, I have my dream netbook. It's purple, first and foremost. It has a built in webcam. I don't know why I wanted this part... but I really wanted a webcam. Also, it's Acer, which is a name I trust. Did I mention that it's purple? Mikey is seriously magical. I could ask for a unicorn, and he'd make one, somehow. I'm really lucky.

So tonight, as Mikey is working at his brother in law's pizza shop (thank goddess for that!) I get to play on my new computer. My new, purple, computer.

My day off!

Today was great. Normally, it would have been nothing unusual... But
my life is so far from normal right now that I almost forgot what it
was.

Not to get into crazy detail (though I will in private if anyone
cares) but my life has been a whirlwind of insanity and energy
recently. A new person has entered our life and has turned it upside
down. Nothing terrible, but so strange. I haven't seem my husband much
either, because he is always off saving the world and bailing out his
friends. I love him, but I miss him!

I got him all to myself today! We went to the new Pogo's, in East
Bridgewater. This is definitely the best Pogo's of the three... But
that is for a Yelp review. We got great omlettes and coffee and
yummmmm! I've been on a very strict diet with one cheat day a week, so
this was amazing for me.

It's so hot out today, so we poked around in a few stores. We went to
Dick's Sporting Goods and looked at kayaks (<3) and went to Bed, Bath
and Beyond to use our gift certificate that we got for our wedding
(thanks Dave!!!).

We looked around the whole store, and Mikey found a canopy! And not
the crappy kind that hangs from a circle, the nice kind that you hang
from the ceiling. It was white though, and they had no other colors.

Polyester doesn't take dye well, but anything would be better than
white. We found "dark brown" dye, and it did dye it, a bit. It turned
a gorgeous light violet... I love it!

Mikey cooked delicious scallops for the first time, they came out
great. Definitely worth the money. I'm currently sipping some wine
(okay, gulping) and watching Hell's Kitchen as the canopy is drying.
Today was so wonderful and peaceful! I love my life. This day was
exactly what I needed. Tomorrow it's back to the Stone, but for
tonight, I'm in heaven.

Apartment woes.

Let's talk about how much I hate my apartment...

Our microwave is on milk crates in the kitchen. Until recently, our
dishwasher had no wheels on the racks. The dryer needs to run 14 times
before clothes are dry. I think clothes come out wetter than they go
in. My window won't open. The closet door doesn't move. The floor
squeaks. The hot water in the shower lasts about five minutes.

I could go on.

Of course, all of this pales in comparison to our last apartment,
where we didn't have to worry about a dryer or a dishwasher, because
we didn't have one. Or a kitchen for that matter.

So I can live with and even tolerate the issue we'd been having until
recently.

Please tell me how a third floor apartment floods?

It's been hot recently, and we don't deal well with hot. Because of
this, the AC has been on. What we didn't know is the AC leaks. A lot.
Maybe 4 gallons a day, if not more.

So for three days our room was flooding, until Mikey noticed the floor
was wet. We vacuumed and cleaned (ok, Mikey did) and the room looks a
lot better. We have a tub under the AC that is gathering tons and TONS
of water...

I can't wait till we have a real house... And don't have to try to get
a landlord who couldn't care less (and lives 5 minutes away) to fix
things. Grr.

Fruit Salad... Yummy yummy!

Aren't these the largest strawberries you've ever seen?

We went grocery shopping today for the first time in forever. It was
so fun! I guess it's strange how much I love grocery shopping... There
was so much on sale for "Buy one, get two free"... Even blueberries!
So we decided to make a yummy fruit salad!

One container each of strawberries and blueberries
Four kiwi (also on sale for 44 cents each)
Walnuts
Sugar (just a bit)

Soooo good! Especially after the heavy buffalo style meatloaf we had
for dinner!

La la la la Lola!

Today was a very social day, especially considering my anti-social
tendencies recently.

Started off with a quick meeting at work. I always plan things for
much longer than they'll actually take...

We went to Kevin and Andrea's for a while. Just watched tv and
chatted, the usual. Tried a pizza from Chessman's for the first time.
It was SO good. It was a Caesar pizza... It had chicken and bacon and
white sauce. I have no clue how that's Caesar, but it was amazing!!

After that we went to meet Tammy's new puppy Lola. She is so much
tinier than the pictures make her seem! She was exhausted when we got
there. She was very very cuddly though, and army crawled all over us.
Mikey definitely got puppy fever again...

I can't wait till we have money again... I want to be able to go good
shopping and make a budget and have money. It's disheartening to see
others having a real life. We'll get one soon though!!

Cat in the Box

What is it with cats and boxes?

This is the box we got from Creepy (the convenience store in Plympton)
for our Smirnoff drinkies. When we brought it home the other day,
kittehs were in heaven. When I came home from work yesterday, they
were in it... And MJ looks so cuuute!

Yes, my day was so boring that this was my only picture... Haha... I
worked all day...
